From our first small bunch of 12 Aberdeen Angus calves in 2011, the herd has grown and we went from first supplying local butchers and then selling beef boxes from the farm gate.
Then in 2017 we made the leap from field to high street, taking on the butcher’s shop in Codicote, renaming it ‘The Farm Butchery’ with the ‘field to fork’ ethos remaining central to our business. We continue to farm native breed cattle (mostly Aberdeen Angus) on the family farm in Rabley Heath and more recently have added a flock of Texel lambs.
Our style of farming is a traditional, low input system, with the animals out at grass for all but the coldest winter months. This slow style of farming has not just environmental benefits but results in meat that is of high quality, tender and full of flavour!
Working with other local farmers and food producers it is this same level of care and commitment we look for and it means our customers not only enjoy the best meat, but have food where provenance matters and there is a story to tell!
As farmer’s we want you to care about where your meat comes from and support British farmers and as butcher’s we see it as our mission to provide you with meat you can trust.
However, we sell more than just raw meat! Our deli counter features among the best pork pies and pasties money can buy, wonderful cooked ham from a local family run curing company as well as our own sausage rolls made in store. There is also a vast array of other produce, (much of it local and all of it delicious) from sauces to chutneys, granola to chocolate, rapeseed oil to apple juice plus free range eggs, fresh fruit and veg!
